There are not many official orthodontists in the area of Basel. After becoming a dentist, an additional 4-year training program is required at a Swiss university in order to become a specialist in orthodontics.
All orthodontic treatments will be personally planned, discussed and carried out by Michael Hänggi. Having no change of practitioner ensures a consistent treatment goal and a smooth treatment sequence.
It’s relatively easy to straighten teeth but it’s much harder to maintain the result permanently - for example, a deep bite has to be corrected fully, so that there is enough space to bond a retainer wire in the upper jaw afterwards.
The final outcome has to be secured with high-quality retainer wires. Experience shows that removable retainers are not worn consistently enough and the teeth will start to move again.
